Yves Saint Laurent Enters the Web3 Realm

One of the amazing things about NFTs is that virtually everything can be turned into one. We’ve seen NFTs of tweets, memes, and even someone’s soul (yes, that actually happened). But perhaps one of the mediums that we are yet to see take a bigger stance in the NFT space is photography.

Since the invention of the camera, humans have taken billions of images, whether professional portraits or iPhone selfies. From random images to the more iconic ones, the cultural influence of photographs cannot be overstated. With NFTs on the rise, many of these images have been turned into digital assets, with some photographers even making this their preferred niche.

So, who are the top photographers making waves with NFTs?

Justin Aversano

With over $10 million in earnings, Justin Aversano’s photography is some of the most popular on OpenSea. Artistically, Aversano is known for capturing his subjects in a very grounded and human light.

His signature style can be seen through his Twin Flames collection, which features 100 portraits of twins from around the world. Then there are his Smoke and Mirrors pieces, which are all black and white and feature people in a variety of intimate and almost haunting scenarios.

Besides being a top NFT photographer, Aversano is also the co-founder of Save Art Space and Quantum NFT, an on-chain platform for photographers.

Jacob Riglin

With millions of dollars in sales and millions of followers worldwide, Jacob Riglin is one of the most popular NFT photographers on the internet. His speciality is taking photos from cities and countries around the world and turning them into NFTs.

His most popular collection, ‘World Wonders’ features 50 images from 50 countries. With inspiration from Japan to Norway, the collection was created with material from over 8 years taken by the U.K native. A follow-up collection, ‘50 unique stories behind the “World Wonders” Collection’, comprised of 50 cards that told the stories behind the original images.

Eric Rubens

If there’s one thing to note about NFT photographer Eric Rubens, it’s his impressive social media chops, including an Instagram account with almost 500,000 followers. Littered with breathtaking images from all over the world, Rubens has won the Top Instagram Travel Account from both Conde Nast Traveler and Business Insider.

These images, which are almost always beach-themed, are often minted and sold as NFTs in Rubens’ collections like Oceab Intersection and Beach Boulevard. These collections have almost completely sold out, showing just how popular his work is. Having solidified his photography niche and made a name for himself in both the Instagram and NFT space, Rubens is definitely one to watch.

Trey Ratcliff

With his breath-taking images of everywhere from New Zealand to Hong Kong, Trey Ratcliff has made a name for himself within and outside of the NFT space. His collection, ‘Beautiful Cities of the World’ alone sold for millions of dollars and his works have been snatched up by celebrities like Leo Dicaprio and Edward Norton.

Besides being a celebrated Smithsonian-featured photographer, Ratcliff is also at the forefront of blockchain and tech education. Famously, he developed a conceptual project that involved asking an AI 6,000 questions and documenting the answers. Needless to say, even with his success as an NFT photographer, Ratcliff is experimenting with all mediums of art.

Isaac Wright

Known within the community as ‘Drift’, Isaac Wright is an NFT photographer who specializes in ariel shots – often climbing to very tall heights to achieve his surreal images. But this has also contributed to his immense success in the NFT space. His collection “Where My Vans Go”, is one of the best-selling NFT collections of its niche, solidifying his influence.

While he initially began climbing and taking pictures to cope with PTSD, he has since been profiled by the New York Times, becoming one of the biggest names in the NFT photography space, and has metaphorically climbed to the top of the world.

So there you have it. Photography has become a very popular niche for NFTs and these five photographers are leading the charge. Each with its unique style and approach, they are changing the way that we see both photographs and NFTs.
